What you learn
Participants begin their learning journey by understanding the contractual hierarchy between Framework Agreements, MSAs (Master Services Agreements), and Statements of Work. They then delve into the principles that underpin effective scope writing: asking questions, fostering collaboration, and ensuring clarity in writing. The course provides question sets to help participants use the science of conversation analysis to bring clarity to their Statements of Work.
Participants are taught the importance of iterative discussions in uncovering unknowns in their work, which (in turn) accelerates the authoring and review processes. A major contributing factor to project failures is the failure to identify and clearly communicate the goals of the work. Participants learn how to use 'why' to define the goal of the work and to define the scope and deliverables.
Quick tools are provided to help participants consider and map the key people involved in their own Statements of Work. This eLearning course emphasises the significance of the preparation phase and offers guidance on how to incentivise suppliers to engage in pre-signature work. Learners also identify additional ways to add value to a Statement of Work.
According to WorldCC, scope is the number one cause of disputes in contracts. Participants in the eLearning programme learn to accurately define scope and create meaningful contract language for services, expertise, advice, and delivery that are challenging to define. Participants learn to apply our checklist to ensure that their scope is clear, unambiguous, accountable, and free from jargon. The checklist enables professionals to quickly add value and clarity when authoring scope.
We emphasise the importance of including a 'Scope Exclusion: Out of Scope' section to aid clarity and discussion. We examine examples of unclear scope where a scope exclusion could have helped define the work better. The programme recommends, where possible, holding a live Micro-scope meeting to ensure absolute clarity. Learners explore potential strategies for contracting when the scope is uncertain, such as discovery phases and documenting the process.
Explores the role of deliverables, dependencies and Acceptance Criteria in agreeing smart statements of work that will succeed against focused metrics. Participants consider how best to write and include deliverables in the Statement of Work and how to write and agree Acceptance Criteria that clarify the standards and outcomes that are expected.
Learners review how teams work together to monitor, accept, and reject deliverables through the acceptance process.
The eLearning program includes case studies to enable participants to practice applying their new skills.
Transition beyond the traditional Time and Materials model that puts all clients at risk, and explore more advanced pricing models designed to delight procurement teams and ensure project success.
In this course, we will delve into various commercial models and their practical applications. We will introduce our innovative two-step model for selecting the most suitable commercial approach.
Discover how to effectively leverage our prompts to analyse project requirements and determine the ideal commercial model types. We'll guide you through a detailed case study, providing hands-on experience in applying our method to select the optimal commercial model.
Learn the art of querying people costs within the Statement of Work, and understand how asking pertinent questions about time contributes to everyone's comprehensive understanding of the project.
